I have specific standards when it comes to sugar cookies. Thick, but not too thick, soft and, delicious of course! This recipe has been with me since my high school home economics class (thanks Mrs. Lemon!) I always thought it was so cool that her name was Mrs. Lemon and she taught foods. But, I digress. On to the goodness that should be set out for good ol' St. Nick. Just make sure the kiddies don't snitch them all before he gets his share.
Perfect sugar cookies
1 stick butter, softened but not runny
1 C. sugar
1 egg
1/2 C. sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla (I personally like some almond flavor as well, so 1/2 tsp. of each)
3 1/4 C. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and beat until fluffy. Add sour cream and vanilla. Blend well. Sift (or blend together) flour, soda, and salt. Gradually add to creamed mixture. May need to adjust flour slightly.
Bake in oven on ungreased cookie sheet 5-7 minutes or until done (just lightly brown on edges).

Ummm... I think I'm making these. Tomorrow.
Mariah- This is the exact same recipe I use...I got is from my sister Mel and I kept wondering where she got it...from Mrs. Lemon!!!! I am glad to finally know. Everytime I make these cookies, I get rave reviews even from people who aren't big fans of sugar cookies- I think it's the sour cream.
