I spent the day with a friend on Friday. We met at a park at noon in Salt Lake. I left to come home at 6:30. We talked, ate, walked around, watched our kids play, talked, ate some more and talked some more. Our conversation covered the gambit of topics, including: bedroom preferences (wink), our husbands' penchant to be irrationally attached to their old clothes, the journey of grief, how silly our perspective in high school was, the nightmare that IVF is, and our testimonies of Jesus Christ. She's the type of person that you walk away from feeling completely whole, validated and accepted. I suppose that's why six and half hours can come and go & I barely recognize it.
I'm so grateful for her and all the other ladies, girls or women (whatever label is your preference) in my life. We need each other & we need to be there for each other. Friday made me realize this with a renewed sense of responsiveness. I know how hard it can be to let others in. I recognize that asking for help is not always easy. I also know that when we let it happen we connect, bond and become changed by love.
Jack lulled me into a meditative trance as I drove home. As I pondered his words and all the words that Charlotte and I shared, I felt that fleeting sense of awe that falls upon us once in awhile. Love is the answer. We are here together to give. Love is what we give & it will always be better that way.
